September 2015

Dear New Forest Rally Enthusiasts

We would like to thank you all for attending and supporting this year’s New Forest Rally. The committee hope you all enjoyed the rally. Many people return each year, last year we had a number of families returning for a second time and many extended their stay from a few days to the whole week. We were also pleased to welcome a number of new families attend this year for the first time and we hope you will come again next year. The rally continues to go from strength to strength and it would be appreciated if you could spread the word amongst your cycling friends to encourage them to attend in 2016

Next year’s Rally will be held from Friday 22nd July until Saturday 30th July 2016

The aim of the rally continues to be a relaxed family orientated cycling event where families can spend time together in conversation with each other and their friends and maybe get away for a while from the electronic gadgets which seem to be taking over our lives.

We would like to thank the members who gave their support and help during the rally for the various events. The main activity continues to be the cycle rides and a special thanks to those who led group cycle rides in the Forest. For first timers this is particularly useful, as they may not be familiar with the tracks and quieter lanes within the Forest, it is also nice to cycle and meet other families.

We will continue to have the evening events, including swimming and by popular request we have booked the ‘Barn Dance’ with Kate Carpenter and ‘Swing your Partners’ for Sunday evening. We are always open to suggestions for other ideas please contact Geoff Clark email address newforestrallysiteorganiser@outlook.com

We continue to enjoy tremendous support from Avon Tyrrell and their cooperation was extended this year by agreeing to take responsibility for setting up a ‘CTC New Forest Rally’ booking system within their own system. This new venture enables the flexibility for people to book online, over the phone, or by mail. The bookings for the 2016 rally will be handled in the same way. Like all new systems there are always a few areas for improvement. Avon Tyrrell welcomes your constructive feedback and they would like to hear from you on your experience in using the new system whether this was online or over the phone. In this respect please send emails direct to Nicola Barratt at Avon Tyrrell (email address nicola@ukyouth.org ) Suggestions for improvements to facilities on the Rally site have been taken onboard and are being considered for next year subject to finance being available.

Our web page will be updated and we will send out a further News Letter in the new year to advise you when bookings for 2016 will open, in the meantime happy and safe cycling.

Kind Regards

Your New Forest Committee (News Letter forwarded to your via Avon Tyrrell email)

The New Forest Cycling Week was founded in 1975 and for 35 years was based at the Forestry Commission Roundhill campsite near Brockenhurst. In 2010 the New Forest Cycling Week moved to the UK Youth Activity Centre at Avon Tyrrell Manor near Burley.

The Rally attracts approximately 200 attendees each year. It is an informal rally for cycle campers, free from pressure and over-organisation, yet offering activity for all those who wish to join in. It's a rally for cycling families, small groups and individuals whether new to camping or, indeed, more experienced and age is immaterial! There is plenty to see or explore in this unique area. The many minor roads and tracks make enjoyable and safe riding for families and younger riders and there is normally something taking place every day. Various on site activities take place during the evening. Other activities during the week include children’s time trial, swimming, Bar-B-Q and on Wednesday use of the Avon Tyrrell adventure facilities for children using their instructors.
