New Forest Cycle Rally Friday 21 July – Saturday 29 July 2023 (8 nights)
Happy New Year to you all. I hope you’ve all had a great Christmas.
Time to think about next year and summer cycling!
In a break with tradition, we will not be returning to Avon Tyrrell this year as changes to the way they operate means they will no longer take a rally booking. However, we are excited to announce that this year’s rally will go ahead at Hurst View campsite near Lymington.
Alastair and David have had to work hard to find a site that meets our needs in terms of taking a combination of tents and caravans/campers (not all will take a mix). The unavoidable downside is that it doesn’t have facilities for a barn dance or many electric hook-up points. In every other aspect it’s a great site and we’re looking forward to scouting new rides and planning alternative entertainment for the week.
The committee have arranged for electricity to be available in the information tent and will organise another empty tent which will be a community resource for charging bikes, phones etc. We are also looking into making a communal fridge and freezer available. Our rally field is part of a larger campsite which does have electric hook ups for a limited number of caravans in a different field, should that be a priority for you and if they are still available when you book.
This site is taking rally bookings now, so don’t delay, and we look forward to seeing you all in the summer. To book, please telephone or use the contact form on the website. Please be sure to say that you are coming for the cycling rally when booking (and for how many nights).
Also, Cycling UK have recently announced a ride leaders’ online training course, available to ride leaders of member groups like us. So if you are interested please have a look at https://www.cyclinguk.org/news/cycling-uk-launches-new-online-ride-leader-training-course-member-groups and contact Anna to get your name put forward.
