Rally opens 12.30pm Friday 26 July to Saturday 3 August 2019
Hi Everybody
The weather is improving and we look forward to another great cycling and camping week at Avon Tyrrell.
It is now only three weeks to the rally, many of you have already booked, but those who haven’t space is available, so we look forward to you making your booking soon. By going on to our web site www.newforestrallycc.org.uk this will give you the link through to our special pages on the Avon Tyrrell web site. On the web site it gives you a form to make postal booking if you prefer, or a telephone booking or should you wish to book an electric hook up. (advanced bookings for hook up for minimum stay of 5 nights) If making a telephone booking, please remember to tell Avon Tyrrell booking staff you are booking for the rally, on the rally site. We hope you will stay for the week but if not then just as many days as you can.
A few reminders.
We have exclusive use of the rally site for the week from 12.30pm on Friday 26th. However Avon Tyrrell do now allow the general public to camp on the rally field up until 12.00noon on the morning of Friday 26th. As many of you will be aware it is a narrow single track down to the rally field so it would be appreciated if you do not arrive before our allotted time, otherwise there could be congestion with campers leaving the site. If you do arrive in the New Forest early, may I please suggest you park in one of the many car parks in the forest, relax and have a walk and then drive the last couple of miles to the rally site. Please then drive directly on to rally field to the booking in tent. Please check in before pitching. If you have made an electric hook up booking, you will be directed to your pitch. For those not requiring a hook up you are free to choose your own pitch, but please do not pitch on pitches with electric hook ups.
Dogs are not permitted onto the rally site. I would remind you that Avon Tyrrell have a strict rule that no dogs are allowed on the rally site. I have this year received a couple of enquires on this subject but I have explained the rally is not suitable for bring pets to the rally.
Rally Week activities
The main reason for the rally is the enjoyment of cycling in and around the New Forest. While you are free to ‘do your own thing’ many cyclist attending the rally enjoy the company of cycling in a group. For this we need volunteers to lead rides and fortunately we have a number of people who are happy to do this, but we need a few more people to take rides. You choose your ride, distance, destination and time of start, just enter the details on the chalk board in the white tent on the rally field the day before your ride. The only stipulation is that you are a fully paid up member of CyclingUK for third party insurance cover.
Other activities.
Fun Yoga Class
One of our rally goers has volunteered to provide yoga classes free of charge for anybody who would like to join in either first thing before rides or after the rides. Look out on the chalk board for the details. Bring a yoga mat if you have one but a towel to lay on will work just as well.
We also usually have bicycle games one evening, but if any of you have other ideas and thoughts please bring them along to the rally.
Barn Dance Sunday 7.30 in the large marque free wine and cheese at interval. (Help setting up would be appreciated)
Monday AGM 8.00pm Straw Bale Barn. All are welcome, but only Cycling UK members can vote. (cheese and wine after)
Tuesday Under 18 Fun Time Trial around Rally site (volunteers to help set up and marshal see Alison Baker)
Wednesday Activities Day with Avon Tyrrell instructors. See booking form
Thursday Many of you like to arrange to visit the Isle of Wight
Friday BBQ evening with bonfire. (again couple of helpers would be appreciated)
Stepping down from the committee.
This year will be my last year in organising the rally as Secretary/Site Organiser and will probably be my last rally due to health issues. The rally has given me great satisfaction seeing everybody each year enjoying themselves, I have met and made many wonderful new friends. The first rally started in 1975 to which Lyn and I took our own two children. The rally is now in its 44th year.
For the rally to continue in a smooth way, we will need rally goers to take over and continue the pre rally organisation as well as act as the liaison during the rally. At present I carry out both duties, but this could be split into two positions. This will be discussed at the AGM. But if you would be interested in helping out, I have written a ‘Job Description, detailing the tasks involved and would be happy to send a copy to anybody interested in considering joining the committee. Just drop me an email.
Hope to see you all at the rally
Kind regards
Geoff
Secretary/Site Organiser
